2008-2009 Senior
Mentors |

The Senior Mentoring Program is a unique
service that we offer here at LHN. As in the past
years, juniors were individually selected to serve
as mentors to next year's incoming freshmen. Some
activities look for academics, specific talents
(music, sports, acting) or even popularity. Senior
Mentor selections are made on their hearts -
recommendations from their pastor and teachers,
and especially a willingness to serve with a
joyful spirit. This is a difficult process because
so many of our students "qualify" by doing great
things for each other.
Doctor Williams
leads our mentors through a training program which
prepares them to build up the freshmen
spiritually, help form them into a community
family and just be there to care when needed.
Each senior is then assigned a small group
of freshmen to mentor through the semester. Before
classes start in the fall, the mentors are present
at book night and freshman orientation to help
guide our new students through the building and
deal with adjustments to a new environment. At the
end of the first week of school, we whisk our
mentors and freshmen off to a retreat, kicking off
a year of spiritual, community and care formation.
A mid-year mini-retreat offers another opportunity
for our Senior Mentors to guide our freshmen in
growth. This is also combined with organized
monthly meetings which bring the Senior Mentors
and freshmen together for Bible study, community
building activities, and prayer.
Our
Senior Mentors are just one more facet here at LHN
making us not so much an institution, but a family
- the eternal Family of God!

College accptance
Help us update our list of college acceptances.
Please look over the list and if you were omitted
please inform Mrs. Heath ASAP. It is proper to
write letters to the schools that you don't plan
on attending so they can award your spot to
someone else. Also make sure you sign up for the
earliest orientation at the school you will be
attending in the fall as to help insure you get
the best choice for class schedules. LHN publishes
the total scholarship and grant money offered to
the Class of 2008 in the senior profile book
available at the graduation ceremony. Please make
sure you give the total amount to Mrs. Heath,
INCLUDING the awards you are not accepting for
accurate publication.

SAT and ACT test sign-ups, FAFSA, scholarship
information, etc.
Please start at the
EDLINE website under "college info" to get the
correct links to these websites. There is a
website using ".com" instead of www.fafsa.ed.gov
and it is not a valid site. Government websites
will not be charging you to fill out a form. SAT
and ACT websites are companies that will charge
you to take tests because they are providing you
with a service. Colleges and Universities will be
charging you an admissions fee to apply to their
schools. This is not refundable if you are not
accepted. If you have any college admissions
questions please email Mrs. Mary Heath at
maryheath@lea-hou.org.
ACTIVITIES for a good resume include
volunteering, camps or a job. Make good use of
your summer. Don't forget summer reading. For
students looking for NTA's (non-teenager
activities) this summer go to http://www.lcms.org/ca/dcs/SERVevents/locat

If you would like a meeting with your student
and Mrs. Heath, please call or email.
